Supervisor of Contractor Services & District Support

Maritime Electric Company, Limited is seeking candidates for the position of Supervisor of Contractor Services & District Support.

Maritime Electric is dedicated to providing superior customer service to its customers on Prince Edward Island. Reporting directly to the Manager, T&D Construction Services, the Supervisor of Contractor Services & District Support is responsible for the supervision, inspection, and quality control of contractor work, and district support when required.  This position will be based from the West Royalty Service Centre; however travel across the island would be a key component of the position.

The successful candidate will have skills and knowledge in but not limited to:

  • Familiarity with the operation, maintenance, and construction of transmission and distribution lines.
  • Competency in the use and operation of off-road vehicles such as ATV’s and snowmobiles.
  • Basic understanding of the electrical and mechanical nature of transmission and distribution lines.
  • Basic understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code, applicable CSA Standards, and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment in power line construction, operation, and maintenance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OH&S Regulations, occupational hazards, and proper safety precautions of the line trade.
  • Working knowledge and effective use of Maritime Electric’s computer programs, such as spreadsheets and word processors to store, organize and analyze department operational data to prioritize work plans.

The position requires the understanding of a body of knowledge in the electric utility business. A Power Line Technician with Red Seal certification with experience in transmission and distribution projects would be highly desirable. An Engineering degree in an appropriate field combined with T&D experience would be desirable. A minimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical utility industry in the operations or engineering area. Preference will be given to a Power Line Foreperson with experience.

Duties include but are not limited to the following (a full job description is available):

  • Direct supervision of contract crews working on the T&D system, including line construction and vegetation management operations.
  • Plan and supervise T&D projects as assigned.
  • Complete quality control of transmission and distribution line construction and report deficiencies.
  • Monitor projects for compliance with standards and ensure proper work methods are used. Monitor project costs and timelines, report on variances and scope changes.
  • Assist with project estimating and budgeting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent have a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.

This position offers a competitive and comprehensive compensation and benefits package. The starting pay range for this position is between $115,000 and $125,000 per annum depending on your experience and offers an annual performance-based bonus as well as a company vehicle while at work.
