Maritime Electric Company, Limited is seeking candidates for the position of: Accountant – Financial Reporting

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the Accountant - Financial Reporting is a key member of the Company’s finance team working in a dynamic and challenging environment.

This role will support all accounting processes for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, provide financial analysis of both capital and operational initiatives, research best practices for financial models/reporting and assist in the development of new and improved business processes that support both finance and other Company departments.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead in preparation of financial statements and all related accounting transactions, notes and schedules.
• Maintain Variance Reporting process with comparisons to budgets and forecasts, and collaboration with the Regulatory & Financial Planning
• Quarterly Financial Reporting and Template preparation for Fortis Inc.
• Assist in the maintenance of internal controls to ensure financial information is complete and accurate through development and monitoring of Accounting Standards and Corporate Policies and Procedures, and assist in interim and annual external financial audit
• Manage the Great Plains Accounting System and Management Reporter applications.
• Maintain and develop Excel based models that support all aspects of Financial Reporting.
• Assist other departments with financial data collection and analyses.
• Other departmental duties as needed for coverage of vacations and vacancies.

Qualifications:

• Strong technical and analytical skills, ability to anticipate issues and develop reporting models that complement and integrate with existing applications, work with people throughout the organization, and knowledge of software financial systems and Excel application at an advanced level.
• Problem solving and process development skills with the ability to troubleshoot and find solutions with financial software modules and excel models.
• This position requires graduation from a Business Administration/Accounting Technology program or relevant financial experience. Current enrollment in and working towards acquiring a Chartered Professional Accounting designation and electric utility industry experience are assets.

This position offers a competitive and comprehensive compensation and benefits package. The pay range for this position is between $65,000 and $90,000 per annum.
