Woodstock Switching Station

Maritime Electric is building a new switching substation in Woodstock to improve reliability for our customers in West Prince. The substation will be located near Route #2 and the O’Leary Road (see Figure 1).

The switching station will measure approximately 185 m x 100 m and will be situated near the back of the property approximately 800 m from Route #2. It will connect to the existing 138 kV transmission line at the back of the property as well as the existing transmission 69 kV line that runs along Route #2. A 800 m long gravel access road will be constructed on the property from Route #2 to the switching station.

The Project also includes a Maritime Electric Service Depot building to be constructed close to Route #2 with access from the switching station entrance road. The Service Depot will provide space for resources, vehicles and materials to support customers and the electrical system in West Prince.

The above photograph in Figure 2 represents a typical switching station layout. The switching station will measure approximately 185 m x 100 m and will be fully fenced.

Maritime Electric submitted the project to the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC) for regulatory approval, as well as the Department of Environment, Energy and Climate Action for evaluation as part of the Environmental Assessment Guidelines. The project is expected to take approximately three years to complete between 2023 and 2025.
